Traffic and Transport

All of us need to get around in one form or another and our local businesses need good access for their customers and suppliers. Our public places, streets and paths are also places where we meet together as a community and enjoy recreational activities. Council manages the transport network with our partners to help people go about their daily lives safely and healthily by:

• Maintaining and upgrading public roads, paths and stormwater infrastructure;
• Street and gutter cleaning;
• Managing on and off street parking provision, particularly to support local businesses;
• Implementing measures to encourage more walking and cycling, including recreational trails;
• Promoting public transport and supporting bus related infrastructure;
• Carrying out road safety programs with various sectors of the community;
• Ensuring new development proposals meet current and future community needs in a safe and sustainable way;
• Taking account of access, traffic and transport issues in our Council strategies;
• Assessing traffic management needs for special events, construction works and truck access;
• Hosting a monthly Local Traffic Committee to make thorough and transparent recommendations to Council about traffic control measures.
